SP's First Campus in 3D

Singapore Polytechnic's first campus at Prince Edward Road, rebuilt in 3D from one old aerial photo, with a camera that flies into a classroom. Built with Codex on GPT-6 Astra.

An aerial view of the 3D model of Singapore Polytechnic's first campus at Prince Edward Road

What it is

An editable 3D model of Singapore Polytechnic’s first campus at Prince Edward Road, rebuilt from a single black-and-white aerial photo. A 60-second flythrough goes from the sky, down the road, through a doorway and into a classroom. The same model became a snow globe with a raised 3D SP crest that alumni could spin live at a sharing session.

How it was built

Built for fun with Codex, on GPT-6 Astra, for the same SP alumni session as the embroidered SP history. Blender, driven entirely by Python, with no modelling by hand: about 100,000 triangles, plus heritage records of the building to fill in what the photo couldn’t show. The first flythrough was ready in under 1.5 hours, and the full presentation pack by evening.

It’s an interpretation, not a survey. The exterior is estimated from one photo, and the classrooms are imagined.

The full story, including what went wrong, is on the blog.

An unofficial tribute, not affiliated with Singapore Polytechnic.
